PURPOSE: To show the phases of the mass of the earth moon system with respect to the sun.
DESCRIPTION: A rotating turntable is tilted about 12 degrees. Mounted on the turntable is a meter stick with a tennis ball moon on one end. A wireless camera is centered on the turntable and aimed to point at the tennis ball. A lamp on a rod rests about four feet away.
Making one complete 360 degree rotation of the turntable allows one to project the phases of the moon.
EQUIPMENT: Phases of the moon set up, as photographed.
SETUP NOTES: Make the alignment so that the sun and the earth are at the same height. Use the photoflood with a 200 Watt lamp.
