5A30.16 COPPER ROD ON A PIVOT

PURPOSE: To show that a neutral, uncharged conductor is attracted by both positive and negative charge.

DESCRIPTION:  Place a copper rod on a pivot.  Take a positive charged rod near the copper and the copper will be attracted.   Place a negative charged rod rod near the copper and it will again be attracted.

EQUIPMENT: Two charged rods, one acrylic and one pvc, and the copper rod are stored in the electricity and magnetism cabinets in the  static electricity drawer.   The pivot is stored in the electricity and magnetism cabinets in the magnet drawer.
