5k10.20 Induction coil with magnet and galvo

PURPOSE: To show that a current is induced in a coil by a changing magnet field.

DESCRIPTION: A solenoid is connected to a galvanometer.  The one pole of a magnet is inserted into the coil. The magnitude and direction of the deflection of the galvanometer needle is observed on the OHP.  The pole of the magnet is pulled out of the coil and again the deflection is observed on the OHP.  The pole of the magnet is reversed and the demonstration is repeated.

EQUIPMENT: Coil, magnet and galvo are stored in the electicity and magnetism cabinets.  The OHP is on top of the general use cabinets.

SETUP TIME: None.
