PASCAL'S VASES 2B20.40

PURPOSE: To demonstrate that pressure is dependent only on depth, and not on the shape of the container.

DESCRIPTION: Two "vases" with different shapes can are connected to a valve assembly.  Turn the valve to connect the vases.  It is shown that the pressure in the vase depends only on the depth and not on the volume of the vase.

EQUIPMENT: Pascal's vase from the Fluid Mechanics cabinet.  The purple dye water is stored above the wood and metal storage shelf.

SETUP NOTES: Put a tray under the valve because it will leak.  Be sure that the hole in the thin vase and the coil vase is aligned to the valve.
