PURPOSE: To show the magnitude of atmospheric pressure.
DESCRIPTION: A pump is used to evacuate the magdeburg spheres. Challenge a
volunteer to a tug of war.
EQUIPMENT: Pump is stored in the x-ray lab room 55. The magdeburg spheres are
stored in fluid mechanics.
SETUP NOTES: This demo will fail if there is a leak in the seal. Be sure that the spheres are sealed. Also, check that the pump belt does not slip and that the belt gaurd is installed.
