PURPOSE: To show that an increase in the pressure causes an increase in density. This is a result of the compressability of a gas and the incompressability of a liquid.
DESCRIPTION: A bottle of water contains a diver. In the photo at left the
diver consists of an eyedropper that has a visible air volume. In the diver at
right the air volume is concealed.
EQUIPMENT: Cartesian diver is stored in fluid mechanics bottom shelf.
SETUP NOTES: This demo will need camera for video projection in a large lecture hall.
