PURPOSE: To show the limit of resolution due to diffraction.
DESCRIPTION: A video camera is mounted on an optical bench is carefully aligned to point through an adjustable pinhole. The video camera is focused at an object seen on a screen 30 feet away. The video image is displayed to the class.
This can also be done with a slit rather than a pinhole but the pinhole is best.
EQUIPMENT: lamps, optical bench, pinhole, screen, video camera.
SETUP TIME: 1/2 hour.
