6d40.10 MICHELSON INTERFEROMETER - LASER LIGHT

PURPOSE: To show laser light fringes using a Michelson interferometer.

DESCRIPTION: This experiment uses a laser. The system is pre-aligned. The laser light is expanded by a diverging lens attached to the laser in the photograph.  Circular fringes can be adjusted using the tilting mirror (at the right on the interferometer). The light exiting the interferometer is focused onto a screen.  A video camera is used to project the image of the interference fringes seen below:

EQUIPMENT: Michelson interferometer, laser with diverging lens, camera.
