PURPOSE: To show convection currents.
DESCRIPTION: A square is set upright on a table and filled with water. Using an eyedropper a small amount of flourescene dye is placed in the top. A candle is lit and the flame is placed under one corner of the square. The heat at the corner of the square causes a convection current to flow and the dye is seen to move.
Be sure to fill the square to bottom of the neck at the top. Pour enough dye to fill the neck.
EQUIPMENT: Square glass frame, dye, burner.
