Where is the rest of the universe?

In recent times, astronomers have faced an astonishing fact: we can account for less than 10% of the universe. Which leaves us to wonder "What is the nature of the huge "missing" part - the "dark matter" of space?

WHERE IS THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE introduces us to the explorers eho are trying to answer that question. From unique vantage points, they help us grapple with one of astronomy's most challeging dilemmas.

At the Carnegie Institution in Washington D.C., Vera Rubin gives us an expert's eye view of the "dark matter", since she was one of the first to propose its startling existence. She reveals how by studying the starlight emitted from galaxies, she observed phenomena that didn't match what science predicted.

Tony Tyson of Bell Laboratories is another astronomical sleuth who's trying to unravel this mystery by looking for the "fingerprints" of dark matter. We follow him from the base of the Chilean Andes to the Mauna Kea observatory the clues to solve this huge celestial puzzle.

John Dobson invites us to approach this unknown with a sense of wonder. A self-proclaimed "sidewalk astronomer", he 's devoted his life to making astronomy "the people's science". We follow him to Oregon's Crater Lake National Park for one of his famous "sky parties" and learn first hand how simple telescopes can be built.

Dobson also gives voice the spirit of discovery that compels humans to even ask: "Where Is the Rest Of The Universe?" "Everyone IS born curious. Everyone wants to see and understand this universe. They 're just waiting for someone to explain it to them."
