PURPOSE: To demonstrate periodic motion that is not not
simple harmonic.
DESCRIPTION: Water from a spout drips into a double bucket balanced on a
spindle. When one half bucket is full it tips over to one side and dumps the
water out into the sink. The other half is then filled, it tips to the other side
and the motion repeats. The motion is repetetive, but it is discrete and
discontinous.
EQUIPMENT: Water Relaxation Oscillator as photographed.
SETUP NOTES: Stored in fluid mechanics.
