The National Science Foundation has selected Prof. Marston as one of the first ACI Fellows.

    Citation:
"For his transformational interdisciplinary research harnessing the methods of theoretical condensed matter physics to attack climate modeling and the exceptional interdisciplinary educational opportunities that derive for the mentoring of his students."

The National Science Foundation emphasizes the importance of supporting transformative research. Transformative research is defined loosely as "a range of endeavors, which promise extraordinary outcomes; such as, revolutionizing entire disciplines, creating entirely new fields, or disrupting accepted theories and perspectives. In other words, these endeavors have the potential to change the way we address challenges in science and engineering and also provide grist for the innovation mill. Supporting transformative research is of critical importance in the fast-paced, science and technology-intensive world of the 21st Century." Amplified by broader impacts NSF supported endeavors contribute to the needs of our society and help ensure that America remains competitive and innovative.
