Summary written by {jhailey@hotmail.com} Christian, a young wannabe Bohemian poet living in 1899 Paris, defies his father by joining the colorfully diverse clique inhabiting the dark, fantastical underworld of Paris' now legendary Moulin Rouge. In this seedy but glamorous haven of sex, drugs and newly-discovered electricity, the poet-innocent finds himself plunged into a passionate but ultimately tragic love affair with Satine, the club's highest paid star and the city's most famous courtesan. Their romance is played out against the infamous club - a meeting place of high life and low, where slumming aristocrats and the fashionably rich mingled with workers, artists, Bohemians, actresses and courtesans. Summary written by Sujit R. Varma {sujit_varma@hotmail.com} Comment: I fell in love with this movie the first time I watched it. At first the movie felt weird and fast paced. The catchy songs, beautiful dancing and costumes, and the specticals of the sets were amazing. The love story of Satine and Christian is timeless and very moving. I fell in love with Nicole Kidman's character and the way she portrayed Satine. Both Ewan and Nicole have suprisingly beautiful and passionate voices that the first time I watched the musical, I doubted it was even them singing, like they were actors lip-singing to a pre-recorded tape. McGregor's final scene with Nicole is the best I've seen him act. His heart felt emotion he portrayed needs a 2002 Oscar nomination. He's one of my favorite actors because of that very role. Nicole Kidman is timeless herself and with this part as Satine under her belt, she'll only be ever more successful in her acting career.
